End view of the NACA 0012 Surplus Aluminum Airfoil available from MTM Scientific, Inc. The blade material is 6005-T5 aluminum. The extruded blade comes in 5 foot lengths.
Detail of airfoil blade end attachment intended for a Darrieus Windmill design. Fasteners are also aluminum, to prevent long term issues with corrosion. Flats were machined on both sides of the blade to create a stable mounting surface.
Homebrew version of a standard windmill blade fabricated using the extruded airfoil shape and simple steel strapping. Corrosion is minimized by sandwiching a thin layer of neoprene between the steel and aluminum. This particular blade design was attached directly to an automotive alternator's shaft.
Example of a Vertical Axis Windmill in Northern Michigan. This windmill design accepts wind from any direction. The generator is mounted directly below the rotating blades and appears to be direct drive. The tower design is simple and functional.
